It takes time to become skilled at business social networking. The truth about this fact is that every market is different and has different desires, needs, and wants. It takes time to find the right marketing message to fit those needs perfectly. However, not every company is ready to take this time. Therefore, they are regulated to using the social networking platforms like everyone else on the system. However, a committed business person or business owner who puts the time into learning their target market can become good at networking for their own product or service.

What takes the most time in advertising is learning about a market and testing what message works best when speaking to that target market. This process can take a lot of work and time; however, it is the highest value task that a business person can be involved with in their business. Allocation of time to this discipline will allow the business to eventually outsell a competitor by wide margins. This also speaks to the point that they will understand the needs and wants of their target market very easily. The business can use this understanding to generate more products and services that will sell to this target market because they have an understanding of what that target market needs and wants.

The ability of a person to find a target market and test a message will affect how fast they can get good at social networking for business purposes. Although every market is different, the core skill is always testing and tracking. It is varying the voice that conveys the message, and could be varying the offer that goes with the product (depends on if the person in question has enough power to make such a change). Having a high proficiency in these skills sets will allow a person or business owner to enter any market that they want and do well in those markets.

Any marketing medium (including social networking) really comes down to numbers and science (even though most people do not want to admit it). They call boxing a sweet science and the truth is that marketing is a sweet science as well. There is so much granular data that can influence the response of a customer that should not be ignored. Every action counts in a sales funnel and every step in that sales funnel should be tested.

The skills that it takes to be a successful marketer are the skills that it takes to be successful in any other marketing medium. What it takes is the willingness to find out how to learn those skills and apply them in a real environment. It is no different with prize fighting; the only way to see if a technique or strategy is important is to test it on a real resisting opponent. In any selling situation, the other person is a real resisting opponent who does not want to hand over their cash. It is the job of the person who wants to be good at social media (or whatever medium it happens to be) to find out how to get that person to open their wallet.
